JK was a part of the 70s/80s UK pirate station Radio Jackie, and also contributed to the station's output after it was legalised some years later.
However it was after a holiday (vacation) in Naples, Florida, JK discovered smooth jazz. And upon returning to the UK set out to find an Internet station to tune into for more of the same... and failed. Well at least failed to find one with a palatable playlist. Suitably frustrated, JK was directed to Live365.com, a do-it-yourself webcasting site, who allowed would be programmers to set up stations of their own. This he did. In February 2001 Soft Jazz UK was born.
It was originally meant to be a personal project but it proved popular with Live365 regulars and quickly rose to be the #1 smooth jazz station on the Live365 network. It still is today.
In 2004 JK was introduced to Ari Shohat, the CEO of Sky.fm, an independent network of Internet radio channels. Ari was looking for somebody to programme a smooth jazz channel for Sky and agreed that JK would be that person. Sky.fm Smooth Jazz launched in the fall of that year. Within two years it had become the world's largest smooth jazz online presence. It continues to dominate the Shoutcast listings for the smooth jazz genre, and is amongst the top ten stations worldwide for ALL genres.
Two years later an Uptempo version of the smooth jazz channel was added to the Sky.fm lineup. This was a transition from the "Soft Jazz Expresso" stream which also ran on Live365 previously, and is designed to be a "breakfast show / morning drive" mix of smooth jazz.
JK has a number of other Internet radio projects. Including Sky.fm's "All Hit 70's", and other Live365 channels, some of which you'll find listed on the links page.
